After the two-hour budget workshop, the agenda at the City Advertising and Promotion Commission’s Dec. 21 meeting was relatively light.

In his Director’s Report, Director Mike Maloney praised the events and activities held in December for the holidays, including the free movies in the Auditorium. Maloney said that a new projector had been purchased for the events and had been used all month.

He reminded commissioners of the upcoming Governor’s Conference on Tourism in February to discuss marketing strategies and travel trends, as well as of his planned “58-minute breakfasts” where staff will meet with local businesspeople each month.

Maloney also gave a positive review of work being done with Larry Schaeffer of Little Wing Productions saying that several acts were penciled in for the Aud already, but he was not able to provide specifics on which groups or bands.

Commissioners approved $51,250 for the Parks & Recreation Department to assist in their work restoring Basin Park, and also passed the $2.4 million budget for 2024 with no changes from what they discussed in the workshop. The budget included raises for staff.

Also approved was $3,000 in a funding request from Carving in the Ozarks, with commissioners discussing how they might move the activity from behind the CS Bank complex on US 62 to downtown.
