Building repairs on the upswing

395

If the Feb. 7 agenda for the Historic District Commission is any indication, the town is hopping with construction and repair in the middle of winter. There were 15 applications, mostly for maintenance and repair under Administrative Approvals, and five more on the Consent Agenda.

Contractor Chris Crider represented the application to amend a previously approved application for entryway modifications at St. James Episcopal Church at 34 Prospect. The new request was for limestone to be used instead of wood for the stairs and entry porches being constructed on each side of the building. Application was approved.

Commissioners also approved the addition of partitions on balconies between four rooms on the second and third floors on the east side of the Crescent Hotel. There will be a metal gate installed to match existing trim on each level, and the porches will get new floor tiles.

These two applications were also approved:

  • 1 Magnetic – construct storage shed
  • 95 Spring – replace wooden post damaged by a car with steel post; replace door and add overhang.

These items on the Consent Agenda were approved:

  • 60 Spring – move sign
  • 155 W. Van Buren – new sign
  • 137 Spring – replace awning with retractable awning
  • 173 S. Main – replace sign
  • 1 Washington – remove non-original porch glass

The Consent Agenda items are Level I applications that the City Preservation Officer believes to be in accordance with the Design Guidelines.
