Bikes could disturb peace

Editor,

Are you aware that volunteers (some who do not even live in Eureka Springs) are in the process of accessing our historic district neighborhoods and the green spaces that border many of our backyards for several new off road mountain bike trails that will eventually connect with the bike trails at Lake Leatherwood bringing possibly hundreds of tourists on bikes into our peaceful historic district neighborhoods on any given weekend?

As citizens of Eureka Springs, shouldn’t we be having input in this process? Shouldn’t we at least have been told about this project for off road mountain bike trails in our town? Are you willing to sacrifice your quiet historic district neighborhood? Are you willing to sacrifice your safety by having total strangers with easy access anytime day or night to your backyards and the back of your home (have you read or heard about the increased number of drug deals, homeless people and home burglaries in Eureka Springs)?

Are you willing to sacrifice your privacy to people whose neighborhoods, homes, safety and privacy will not be compromised by these new trails, but who think they know what’s best for those of us who do live in the Eureka Springs Historic District and will be compromised?

I am a 68-year-old woman who has owned her home here in the historic district for over 30 years, and I for one do not think our charming historic district neighborhoods should be turned into some kind of an eco-tourism amusement park!
