Hunter Cody Chafin of Berryville pleaded guilty in federal court last Wednesday to one count of Bank Robbery, according to a plea agreement released by the U.S. District Court in Ft. Smith. Chafin was accused of stealing $3,350 from the Eureka Springs branch of First National Bank of North Arkansas on Oct. 14, 2016. He was 19 at the time.

Chafin had called a taxi, then walked into the bank and gave the teller a note reading “50s & 100s only! NO Trouble I have a gun.” The teller gave him $3,350 and the note back at his request, and the taxi took him to Bentonville where he bought a motorcycle for $2900. He was arrested shortly after that at a traffic stop. A band with “$1,000” was found in his coat pocket, along with the note.

He faces a maximum term of 20 years and a maximum fine of $250,000, or both, but as of press time he had not been sentenced.
