The Carroll County Airport built a new terminal building in 2011, and that building will need some repairs.
Meeting on June 19, the commissioners discussed problems with siding and windows. A contractor has estimated a cost as much as $110,000, an amount that should cover any additional “surprises” encountered once work begins. In response to a question about how the terminal problems developed so quickly, commissioners acknowledged that maintenance of the building’s exterior has not been faithfully performed. A grant may provide funds for the repairs.
Airport Manager Mark Pepple said the airport sold about 1,800 gallons of fuel last month, about the same as in the same month last year. During his monthly report, Pepple also described repairing some damaged runway lights.
A hangar tenant has received permission from the airport to install a jet fuel tank, and other small jet owners will be able to purchase fuel. That tank will receive a new liner, expected to arrive by the end of the month.
The airport held youth camps during the week of June 22, with separate camp sessions for younger and older students.
Consulting Engineer Mike Stengel told commissioners that the Arkansas Division of Aeronautics has received requests for $7,000,000 in grants for new hangars. The number of requests may affect this airport in the future, although current projects will not be affected. Preparations are complete for a new six-bay hangar, and construction on that building is expected to begin in early July.
Bids will be opened this week for a project to improve access to a new jet fuel tank. Once those bids are assessed, the airport will apply for a grant to cover the cost.
