Editor,
My compliments to the staff of the Independent for a fabulous newspaper! I was particularly enthralled by the July 10 edition that grabbed my attention with a beautiful apple pie photo, then piqued my interest with a headline about pigs, after which I wondered what an entertainment committee could possibly be, then happily turned the page after reading the note on a famous guitarist who sold his instruments in order to give money to the cause of turning around climate change.
Next were delightful photos of baby barn swallows growing up quickly; a paid advertisement from Rocky, remembering Percy the dog and encouraging us to adopt, foster, sponsor, volunteer, donate, and educate. I pondered the correctness of accepting the homeless, and an interesting home addition on Spring Street, along with the fire hazard of fireworks downtown, all of which caused me to think on many things.
Then I was blown away by the expansive nature of our Methodists in the article about the home they sponsored in ECHO Village and its first inhabitants. (Also, thank you for asking us to help those in need, and pausing to meditate at Heart of Many Ways.) The next page surprised me because I didn’t know Cheryl Rutledge was a sculptor. Great article and beautiful, meaningful piece of art!
The editorial pages are always my favorite and this week was no exception. There was good old common sense and much food for thought! Next, I’m so happy to know about the Montessori preschool and the new director of our wonderful Writers’ Colony! I always love looking at the announcements of “regular meetings,” and I’m sure many enjoy the sports and fishing articles. Thank you for a crossword large enough to see!
You have the best horoscope around and it makes me want to read the whole thing! I look forward to the news about our music scene more than the Sunday funnies in the big paper! I love it all and was particularly happy to hear we have a gypsy-jazz group! The photos of our joyous celebration of Independence by way of a parade made my heart sing.
You do good work, and I thank you.
