Wind power seen as green power

The proposed $300-million Nimbus Wind Facility proposed in Carroll County would be the first utility-scale wind generation facility in the state. While a group of residents have strongly opposed the facility proposed by Scout Clean Energy, some green power backers see this as an exciting development.

Lauren Waldrip, executive director of the Arkansas Advanced Energy Association and its educational affiliate, the Arkansas Advanced Energy Foundation, said the facility is a good thing for Arkansas on a number of fronts.

“Economically, Carroll County will see a significant influx of jobs associated with this project plus an estimated $25 million in tax revenue,” Waldrip wrote in an email. “Green Forest and Alpena Schools will split roughly $1 million of tax revenue in the first year alone, not to mention hundreds of thousands more that will support county roads, libraries, emergency services and more.”

Waldrip said that, environmentally, incorporating renewables into the diversification of our energy portfolio as we transition away from fossil fuels is a way we can ensure the sustainability of the Natural State.

“A project like this is something to be proud of,” she said. “It illustrates the fact that we cherish Arkansas, and we want to be good stewards of our natural resources while also providing affordable power.”

  1. They need to go on the mountains and hills around eureka springs… share the green… let them be concerned about the environmental damage
