Editor,
In watching the funeral of Sen. John McCain, I was struck by the contrast between the dignity, hope and commitment to our country’s “better nature” and the current president. It was said that Sen. McCain planned his own funeral to be a rebuke to the petty meanness of Trump’s administration.
I opposed the war against Viet Nam, but also opposed the torture McCain endured. He was an example of forgiveness and love, dedicated to our country regardless of party.
Our current president is a disgrace to our principles, a money-grubbing crook whose ego overshadows intelligent policy. The lackeys in the Republican Party who go along with him should be ashamed of their weakness and their failure to speak up about caging children, tax cuts only for the rich, and Trump’s racism and corruption. Look at them; hear their silence.
I have been ashamed of our country. President Obama and McCain’s daughter spoke to the possibilities of honor if we vote honorably. We must change this political disgrace.
