Vaudeville! It’s about time

A Good Ol’ Corny Vaudeville performance by B.O.M.B. (Band of Misfits) Squad, will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, May 10, and Saturday, May 11, at the Center Stage Event Venue at 132 Huntsville Rd. (Hwy. 23S) as part of the May Festival of the Arts.

Phyllis Moraga, creative director of the event, said the B.O.M.B. Squad is a charity theatrical group. Net proceeds from the Vaudeville show will be donated to the new Museum of Eureka Springs Art at the Community Center.

“This is a great way to support the museum while seeing a very original, entertaining show,” Moraga said. “And this would be a fun thing to take your mom to for Mother’s Day Weekend.”

The performance is set in 1924 when prohibition was in place. The jokes, acts, styles and music are based on the mid-1920’s. Corny old jokes! Period costumes!

“We are encouraging people to dress like the twenties jst for added fun,” Moraga said. “I’m the show host. I play a German immigrant. I welcome, tell jokes and introduce sixteen different acts. This style of the show is very campy. It will have live sound effects. There is no curtain on that stage so you will see when we set up for another act. There will be some burlesque, comedy, skits, songs and dance. It is all local talent.”

Moraga said the B.O.M.B. Squad was formed last summer to put on performances to benefit local art-related entities. They decided to hold the performance at the Center Stage Event Venue because it seats 340 people, has good parking, and a license to sell beer and wine.

“It’s a spacious, comfortable venue. The seats are cushioned with lots of legroom,” Moraga said. “It is a very professional theater. We are grateful to both the CAPC and the Eureka Springs Arts Council for generous grants to allow us to fund and advertise the performances.”

Moraga said they also thank all generous local sponsors who have helped with the show.

There are two 40-minute acts with a 15-minute intermission between them. Go to Center Stage Event Venue on Facebook or www.eventbrite.com to purchase $30 tickets.
