Thrift store score

Editor,

I recently got to visit the new Good Shepherd Humane Society thrift store in Berryville, and I was blown away by how wonderful the store looks… in fact, as we old Bostonians used to say, it was “wicked awesome!”  The former Carroll Co. newspaper building with 5,000 sq. ft. of floor space has been transformed into a department store full of everything you could possibly need or want, from A to Zartfully arranged – and all on one floor (with a huge parking lot)!

And, perhaps best of all there is a cat room with a huge observation window, housing several of Good Shepherd’s sweet cats ready for adoption.  You can also go in the room and love on the kitties as much as you want without adopting.

In the back on a lower well lighted floor there is a huge pricing room where volunteers get all the donated items ready for the floor. There is also a 1,000 sq. ft. building to store pet food (donated by companies) for local food pantries, for families in need of emergency food during these hard times.

The store welcomes more volunteers… just give the wonderful store Manager Janet Chupp a text/call at (479) 334-8097 or call the store at (870) 423-2870 for more info. Good Shepherd earns a significant amount of its budget from the sales.

The store is located on Highway 62 spur (turn at Carroll Electric building) and is open Mon. – Sat. from 10–5 p.m.

Good Shepherd has gone beyond just food and medical care and getting hundreds of shelter animals adopted. It has also trained the staff in special enrichment programs for the shelter animals (such as “Dogs Playing for Life” –  play therapy for dogs with anxiety, depression, etc.) and offers all sorts of fostering programs. Good Shepherd does outreach to the whole community with low cost spay/neuters and vaccines and microchips, as well as emergency pet food.

I am so, so grateful to live in a county where animals (and people) in need are cared for with such incredible kindness and skill.

  1. They are very worthy of a donation or anything needed for the animals. Perhaps just a little Time walking a dog!!! So happy for the thrift store and that they are doing well.
