Kids are doing remarkable things. In past issues we’ve featured teenagers who insisted on doing things their way – saving part-time paychecks to buy Valentine’s flowers for every girl in school, building small shelters for the homeless, surviving numerous gunshot wounds and winning a Nobel Peace Prize – young people who made something out of nothing by using their heads and hearts.
And now we have another – nine-year old Tyler Fugett of Montgomery County, Tennessee, saved his allowance, bought about a hundred books at sales, and took them to the sheriff’s office where he donated them to prisoners.
“When I’m thinking bad thoughts, I like to read,” Tyler explained to his mom. “Maybe if they read they won’t think about doing bad things.”
Carroll County Detention Center does not have a library, although law books and Gideon Bibles are available.
