This Week’s Independent Thinker

There is good news all around the world, none of it making headlines as red and crazy as bad news. One bit came from a man in Castle Camp, England, who was upset about an 8-month-old pothole that could crumple the axle on a lorry.

James Coxall was exasperated trying to get town council to repair the hole. So he, his wife and his kids covered wooden posts with a pair of stuffed jeans and screwed on some old shoes. They set their creation upside down in the pothole, so it looked like someone had fallen in headfirst.

The hole was repaired in four days.

Then there were the roofers in Edmond, Okla., who tore 80% of a roof off the wrong house. The homeowners were out of town and the roofers were almost finished when holy kamoly, the mistake was discovered.

The homeowners got a humble, apologetic phone call and a new hail-resistant roof. Business went through the roof due to humility and honesty.

Why ever choose a hostile emotion designed to keep us red and crazy?
