These are taxing times

267

At the Sept 10 meeting, city council performed its annual duty of considering an ordinance levying a tax on all real and personal property in the city. Ord. 2273 levied a tax of 4.4 mills on the dollar on both personal and real property of which $.0038 would go to the general fund and $.0006 would go to the Fireman’s Relief and Pension Fund.

One mill is equal to one-thousandth of a dollar or a tenth of a cent, so 4.4 mills is equal to 44 cents on $100.

Council passed the first and second readings of the ordinance.
