How about these temperatures we are having? If you planned on going fishing this past Sunday, you definitely picked a nice day to go, with temperatures in the mid-sixties! The Corps has been generating a little more, with a 24-hour push this past Saturday and 12 hours on Sunday and Monday.

With the increase in temperatures and flow, that is going to help kick start the walleye spawn. With that, you can also get a chance to get in on some trophy brown trout action. Our preferred method has been working jerk baits, along with using live baits. Rainbows have been real responsive to Pautzke Fire eggs and Fire bait, fished with light terminal tackle.

As for the walleye, we are starting to catch a few here and there but not hitting limit numbers yet. Speaking with Arkansas Game & Fish officers, they are not seeing a lot of numbers, as well.

So what that tells me is, it looks like the spawn will happen around the time it normally does between the end of February and April. As long as the weather and the Corps cooperate, we should have a pretty nice run. Remember to follow our fishing Facebook page (Busch Mountain Fishing Guide Service) for recent updates!

Hooked on Fishing Guide Service, Beaver Lake

Striper fishing has been a little tough after the last cold front. Fish moved since last week looking for warmer water. Use your graph to locate bait with some bigger fish around them and don’t be afraid to look in deeper water. Once you find some fish, expect them to move after they feel the pressure so keep covering water to find the active fish.

South end of the lake had a lot of thin ice on the surface but with these recent warm days that should all be thawed out. Crappie were not as active as last week with the cold water temps on the south end so you’ll have to slow down the presentation and give them some time to react to your baits. Brush piles and flats are all holding crappie. Water temps vary from 38° to 43° depending where you’re fishing on the lake.
