Termites gone, Barn gets upgrades

Follow-up on the termites in the Holiday Island Barn was discussed at a second Holiday Island Suburban Improvement District Board meeting this week. District Manager Lawrence Blood and commissioner David Makidon reported that their investigations concerning termites included inspections by two separate pest control companies, and both determined that although there was noticeable termite damage there was no recent or ongoing termite activity.

Therefore, the board approved the plan to install window unit air conditioners, a cost of $7,500, and replace a portion of the roof over the Barn’s entry.

In an update regarding the marina, the “No Wake” buoys have been replaced and the electrical system repair/upgrade is almost complete.

Public comments will be limited to three minutes in addition to an allowance of the public to submit written testimony to become part of the meeting records.

The board approved the 2019 Road project bid and awarded the contract to Heavy Constructors of Arkansas for $174,326.

The next regular meeting is scheduled at 9 a.m., Monday, July 15 at 110 Woodsdale Dr., Holiday Island.
