Stephen Dale Miller Nov. 18, 1941 – Sept. 5, 2023

1841

Stephen Dale Miller was born November 18, 1941, in New Iberia, Louisiana, to Donalta Stephenson and Versales Dale “Spike” Miller. He passed away after a debilitating illness on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2023.

Steve served in the U.S. Army in the early 1960s. He loved music and played guitar and sang for friends in coffee shops. In Tulsa, Oklahoma, he had a successful career in commercial real estate and made many lifelong friendships there. It was in Tulsa that he met Frances “Francie” Stout Hull, the love of his life.

Steve and Francie moved to Eureka Springs, home of his great grandparents and great-great grandparents, the Van Winkles, in the early 1980s. They bought and renovated the historic Palace Hotel and Bathhouse.

Together they created a wonderful retreat for their grateful guests, many of whom returned often and became fast friends. Many of their staff became like family, and remained friends and family long after they left the hotel.

Steve was known for the twinkle in his eye, his warm contagious smile, his ready wit and good nature. He was an active and caring member of the community. During his final illness he was cared for by dear friends Bianca and Rio Walters and Linda Page, assisted by the staff of Amazing Grace and Circle of Life Hospice, who came to know and care for him, and many loving, faithful friends.

Steve leaves a legacy of love and humor and will be greatly mourned and missed by family and friends.

He is survived by his adored wife, Francie Miller; cousins Bobbie Ruth Halliday and husband Doc William Halliday; Sharon Fluitt Lemoine and Howard L. “Rip” Fluitt; step-grandchildren Richard Hull, Jacqui Hull, and many dear friends.

A celebration of his life will be held at the end of October. Check website for updated service dates.
