The Carroll County Airport Commission has heard positive remarks coming from state aviation officials

Commissioners met last Friday, and Airport Manager Mark Pepple and commissioner Morris Pate had attended a session at the Arkansas Division of Aeronautics the day before. Pate said ADA Director Jerry Chism came up to them after the meeting and said he had heard favorable reports about this airport. Chism said no other airport this size offers courtesy cars, and Pate suggested that commissioners locate another courtesy car. Pate said he heard other supportive comments from members of the ADA board.

In other business:

  • Pepple said fuel sales have picked up sharply in recent weeks.
  • The airport’s current Internet service is too slow and too expensive, Pepple said, and commissioners discussed alternative providers.
  • Commissioner Sandy Martin said she sent out a budget draft after the last meeting. After sending it, she found an error, and commission accepted a corrected budget.
  • After an executive session, the commission awarded Pepple a $500 Christmas bonus.
  • After receiving legal advice, the commission has moved a step closer to a positive resolution to the renewal of a lease for long-time tenant Michael Coghlan.
  • All voted to pay for a new door on a storage shed with a keypad. The new door will provide better security for the equipment.
  • Martin said the commission has budgeted $21,000 for a generator, which may be purchased in January. Pate said the airport may be able to obtain a pull-behind generator from state surplus.
  • A Fly-in was scheduled for the day after the meeting. Pate said he planned to buy sandwich boards to place at the highway to draw more public participation to Fly-ins.
