School Wednesdays will be shortened next semester

Eureka Springs school board met Monday night through Zoom, and even with technical difficulties, members took a light agenda in stride. Previous meetings had combined in-person and virtual attendance, but this meeting was restricted, and only Supt. Bryan Pruitt attended from the school.

The agenda included requests for two students to transfer out of the district and two more to transfer in, and board members will have to stop into the office during the week to sign those requests in person.

At last month’s meeting, Pruitt raised the possibility of dismissing school early one day per week to give teachers extra time to work with distance-learning students. The state will allow the arrangement provided that students have the option to remain in school until regular dismissal time. Buses will only run once, however, when school lets out at 1:45 p.m. on Wednesdays. Pruitt said teachers will have an hour-and-a-half to work with online students. The board approved the schedule change, which will begin with the spring semester.

  • The board voted to make electronic payments for its Visa account to avoid the potential for late charges.
  • Students can receive school credit for taking part in a community service-learning partnership. They will perform service at the community center, the humane society, ECHO Village or similar venues.
