Robert’s Rules rule council decision

Alderman Mickey Schneider said Monday that council sometimes adds items to the agenda at the meeting, which meant the public does not get a chance to comment until the next meeting. She acknowledged there are emergency items sometimes, but they often add items that could wait.

Melissa Greene responded that usually the late-added items are for discussion, not for a vote, and Kristi Kendrick agreed they should not add items at the last minute, but pointed out they also defer items at the last minute after people have made the effort to attend for that discussion.

City Attorney Tim Weaver said the agenda is the roadmap for conducting the meeting, but it can be changed during the meeting.

Greene moved they defer the discussion until the next meeting so it can be put on the agenda.

Bob Thomas commented Robert’s Rules of Order already covers this, so he moved to simply follow RRO. The vote on his motion was 4-1, Kendrick voting No.
