Reusable bags as advertising

Editor,

Anyone that lives in Eureka Springs loves nature and wants to make the world a better place by improving our environment. Removing plastic bags from our retail stores is a great thought and worthy of spending some time exploring.

We do live in the real world so it’s important to figure out how we can be cost effective in this endeavor. I believe we could easily do this by working together. With all the great artists in our small town, someone could design a nice drawing or photo and the CAPC could purchase shopping bags in bulk from a website like discountmugs.com for as low as 74 cents each. They could sell the bags to the merchants for $3 each (making a $2 profit), the merchant could turn around and sell them for $5 each (making a $2 profit), and the customer would be delighted to buy this beautiful shopping bag for such a great price. Then as they proudly use it in their day-to-day activities, they would be advertising Eureka Springs and with every compliment, they would have an open invitation to tell people how they just absolutely love Eureka Springs. Nothing beats word of mouth advertising!

Oh, the CAPC doesn’t want to put out all this money for these bags? They can take preorders and give merchants a discount for paying up front! I will sign up for that!
