Practical garage door solution approved by HDC

921

At the June 4 meeting of the Historic District Commission, an application was postponed pending a site visit. At the June 18 meeting, commissioners quickly approved that project.

George Robinson, at 7 Charles Cir., had previously received HDC approval for a garage door 16 ft. wide. He had trouble finding an appropriate door, and asked about using two garage doors, each nine ft. wide. Robinson’s application also called for replacing some vinyl siding with stucco on the face of the garage, and an additional 20 inches around two corners.

At the June 4 meeting, commissioners noted that the house dates only to 1995, and the requested changes would probably fit into the neighborhood. The site visit apparently confirmed that, because Robinson’s application was approved without any further discussion.

A project at 103 E. Van Buren was also approved without objections. Owner Phil Bullock received quick approval for a plan to paint the exterior, install a screen door, replace the roof, install a gutter, repair soffit, repair damaged siding, and replace a cover over the sidewalk. The building dates to 1940 and is considered non-contributing.

Cassie Dishman, director of Planning and Community Development, told commissioners that she expects to have an update at the next meeting concerning a mass mailing to educate city residents about HDC requirements.

The HDC will next meet at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2. Level III applications were due June 19, and Level II applications were due June 25.
