Two weeks ago my wife, Faith, invited me to see and hear a rehearsal at the Methodist Church on 23 South. The creation of each concert is very impressive, and this year’s performance has involved 14 rehearsals that are each a busy two hours.
Having watched work sessions with now three directors of the Ozarks Chorale, the current director, Nathan Olson, carries on the very high standards of his excellent predecessors.
I was transfixed by his efficient conducting techniques. Many smiles emerged as he encouraged members to use more facial muscles, tones, volumes and breathing techniques. The camaraderie and efficiency of our chorale as they followed Nathan’s breakdown of “tricky bits” was awesome.
The variety of music that will be performed Sunday is impressive. Imagine learning and performing 15 (!) pieces in only 14 rehearsals.
