Planning OKs sign wrap

Planning commissioners heard a request at last Tuesday’s meeting from Jeff Joseph for a sign variance for the large sign in front of the former Victoria Inn at 4028 E. Van Buren. Joseph would like to use the sign to advertise the Eureka Springs Brewery, behind the Victoria Inn, and asked for a variance to use that sign for off-premises advertising.

He explained that he has a lease from the property owner and plans to wrap the sign completely. He described some landscaping around the base of the sign. Commissioners approved his request.

After the vote, City Historic Preservation Officer Glenna Booth noted for the record that the chair had voted on this to provide the fourth vote needed for passage. The commission currently has two vacancies, and one commissioner was absent from the meeting. Chair Ann Sallee also voted on the tree removal appeal.

During commissioner comments, Katie Henderickson said, “I’m glad to see that sign getting wrapped. It’s been an eyesore for a long time.”
