The June 18 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting was filled with anticipation about Jamboreeka – T-shirts have been ordered, parking mapped out, food and merchandise vendors lined up, fireworks have been approved by the state, the ABC approved GotaHold Brewing to be on site, and foam pits and water games are planned.

Festivities start at 5 on the 4th and fireworks are at 9:15 p.m.

The first batch of pocket maps, funded by the CAPC and showing trail modifications, will be available soon, according to Director Sam Dudley. Business owners will be able to pick up batches of 50 at a time at the Harmon Park Office.

Dudley thanked Bruce Wright for two volunteer jobs he did at Basin Park, setting stones and plaques under the fire bell and the Spanish-American and World War Memorial. Dudley noted that the main overhauls were done by Stacy Stone Work and his crew, in contract with Ledbetter Construction.

Dudley said that recent changes to Basin Spring Park, including more electrical outlets, water, and trees, have made an impact on the functionality of the park. He cited large scale events over the past few weeks, such as Blues Fest, Diversity Weekend, and the Elvis Festival.
