Phillips and Writer in runoff for County Judge

Of 14,707 registered voters in Carroll County, 5,109 ballots were cast in the May 24 primary, 34.74 percent of registered voters. These results are for Carroll County only.

Daniel Klatt beat four contenders for sheriff with more than 51% of the vote and will replace Sheriff Jim Ross in January.

Bud Phillips and David Writer will be in the June 21 runoff for Carroll County Judge, and that winner will face Rusty Rusterholz, Jr., a Democrat, and two Independents, Kelly Wood and Robert Lynn.

Sara Huffman easily got the nod for Circuit Clerk with 66.67 percent of the vote and will take office in January.

Krista Burnett collected 51%, of votes and will be a first-time Carroll County Tax Collector

Harlan Breaux of Holiday Island squeaked by Brian Ayers by 116 votes, but neither received enough votes to avoid a runoff. That June 21 winner will run against Democrat Markeeta Tucker of Omaha and Libertarian Dakoda Logan of Eureka Springs.

Hunter Rivett won over Geneice McCall and will serve a two-year term on the quorum court, a seat vacated by Marty Johnson who was replaced by Duane Coatney. Coatney was appointed by the governor, thus cannot run in the election following that appointment.

The State Senate District 28 race will be determined by a runoff between Bryan King and Bob Ballinger on June 21, and that winner will face Democrat Jim Wallace in November.

State law requires a runoff if no candidate gains a clear majority (50% plus one or more) in the primary. The top two vote getters from the primary will runoff on Tuesday, June 21. Early voting starts June 14.
