Parks circumspect on re-opening amenities

The Parks commission workshop last Tuesday consisted of Chair Ruth Hager, Commissioner Christian Super and Director Justin Huss for an ultimately concise discussion on the Master Plan.

Super said that he felt that the request for proposals on creating the Master Plan should be broad, to allow Parks to gain input on what to include within the Plan, especially with the way 2020 has shaped up.

He had put together an outline for the Request for Proposals and said he would email commissioners to ask for their expectations from a firm creating a Master Plan, as well as goals. He said they would review it in two weeks.

Huss said that the department is keeping the basics running and that they needed to consider how Parks would reopen. His suggestion was to stay a few weeks behind state parks and open in phases.

Super and Huss had a short discussion on Slack, a business communication platform, with Huss being concerned that it didn’t fit with needing to be an open forum and Super saying it hadn’t had activity for two months. Super said he would back everything up and shut it down.

The next regular Parks meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 19 at 6 p.m.
