Editor,
It’s true that when you investigate corruption that corrupt people resent it. It seems as well that corrupt people resent it when you investigate other corrupt people, as is apparent in the reaction of Republicans who suspect every motive except their own.
Whatever vengeance the right-wing fear mongers threaten, democracy will survive as long as law enforcement and the courts respect our laws. Republicans are working feverishly to distort our justice system by installing unqualified bigots in federal judgeships, but they, too, are subject to the law. Our laws and our elections are all that distinguish us from any other country. Oh yes, and our free press.
