Mary Jeanette McCumpsey, of Holiday Island, Ark., was born February 24, 1926, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Fred A. and Josephine (Battaglia) Scolaro. She passed away April 25, 2019, in Holiday Island, at age 93.

Mary graduated from Mount Mercy Academy in May 1943 and worked as a legal secretary for 45 years. In February 1992, she moved to Holiday Island where she was a member of Elks Lodge #1042. She was also a member of St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Eureka Springs. Mary enjoyed social life, church and all kinds of handiwork.

She is survived by her daughter, Victoria Vander Horn and her husband, Donald, of Holiday Island; three grandchildren, Jason Vander Horn, Nathan Vander Horn and Joy Marie Thurman; six great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, other loved ones and friends.

On October 16, 1965, she was united in marriage with Samuel P. McCumpsey who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her first husband, John E. Klassen; parents, Fred and Josephine Scolaro; two sisters, Dolores Larrabee and Jospehine Condit; two brothers, Anthony Scolaro and Joseph Scolaro.

A wake will be held Wednesday, May 8, 2019, from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Nelson’s Chapel of the Springs in Eureka Springs, Ark. A rosary service will follow at 7 p.m. at the chapel.
