Mary C. Bucholtz, born January 31, 1931, in St. Elmo, Ill., passed away September 10, 2021, in Bentonville, Ark. She was a daughter of daughter of Eugene J. and Barbara L. (Crabbs) Smith. Mary married Fred Bucholtz, Jr., now deceased.

Mary had a B.A., Baker University, Baldwin, Kan., and M.A., A.B.D., Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill. After graduation from Baker, Mrs. Bucholtz worked as secretary to the Dean of Elmhurst College, Elmhurst, Ill., then went to Northwestern for graduate work in English literature of the Victorian period.

Beginning as a work study student at Northwestern’s Deering Library while a graduate student, she subsequently held positions in the administrative offices of the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Education and Social Policy, retiring as the Assistant to the Associate Provost.

She moved to Eureka Springs in 2001 where she became an ‘almost full-time’ volunteer at the Carnegie Library where she was able to indulge her passion for books.

Mrs. Bucholtz was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her sister Barbara, four nephews, two nieces, and 13 great-nephews and nieces.
