Shortly after 10:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 12, Eureka Springs Police were alerted to an apparent suicide at 11 Pine. Roger A. Liebrum, 48, was found dead of what a doctor at the Arkansas State Crime Lab later said was “a close contact wound and it was perfectly conceivable that the victim committed suicide.”
According to ESPD Det. Paul Sebby’s report, Liebrum had recently returned to Eureka Springs and gone to a former girlfriend’s apartment. The woman told police she knew Liebrum was depressed and jobless, and offered him a couch for the night.
When she opened a chest of drawers to get some marijuana, Liebrum saw her two-shot .32 caliber derringer, grabbed it and shot himself.
