Kevin Eugene Wright Nov. 22, 1962 – Jan. 17, 2021

1966

Kevin Eugene Wright was born on November 22, 1962 and passed from our earthly sight on January 17, 2020. He is preceded in death by his father, Obediah Wright, and his mother, Shirley Maxine Taylor Wright. He is survived by brothers Jarrell and Brian and their families; his son, Brice Bowen of Lake of the Ozarks, Mo, and his family.

If Kevin had had his druthers, he would have been an astronaut. But he settled for following his dream of being an artist when he attended the Savannah School of Design after graduation from high school in Berryville, class of 1981. After realizing this education was beyond his means, he became an accidental journalist, first for the Carroll County News, then in various places around the country — Kansas, New Mexico, Texas.

During his last job as editor in Elgin, Texas, he won Texas Press Association awards for best editorial, along with 2nd place for a feature article.

He worked in California editing the Auto Trader publication for national distribution and fought for human rights within this company.

Throughout all of his varied experiences, nothing suited him quite so well as gardening here in Eureka Springs. Because of his love of plants, he studied and became a Master Gardener. While working at the Crescent Hotel, he helped to create their beautiful gardens and befriended many wild animals.

He had numerous gardening clients and was looking forward to upcoming landscaping projects this spring. Kevin leaves behind two adoring dogs, a couple of devoted cats, and his significant other, Marsha Havens. He was loved by many and shall be missed greatly.

We will try to have a memorial service when the weather is warmer and we can be outside. If you would like to give a memorial gift in his name, please donate to your favorite animal shelter or rescue. We suggest Happy Valley Dog Rescue (10116 Hwy 21S, Berryville, AR 72616) or The Good Shepherd Humane Society (6486 Hwy 62W, Eureka Springs, AR 72632), but being the free-spirited man that he was, he would want you to give what you want, when you want — just don’t forget to help someone in need.
