Judith Ann Boslooper Goodwin May 24, 1938 – May 7, 2024

38

Judith Ann Boslooper Goodwin passed on May 7, 2024, at age 85. Judy was born May 24, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan, to William “Leo” and Thelma Boslooper.

She joined the U.S. Army nurse diploma program after graduating from Annunciation Catholic High School (1956). She married Edward A. (“Tony”) Goodwin and married at Ft. Meade in 1961. They were transferred to Germany where she served as a nurse until Honorable Discharge in 1962. She was proud of her service and loved the military.

Her civilian nursing career took her to Mercy Hospital in Coral Gables as well as others in Texas and Florida. She retired at Northeast Medical Center after 45 years as an R.N. Along the way she received bachelor’s in nursing and a master’s in health administration (F.I.U.).

Survived by children: Ruth Ann Goodwin-Hager (Dave), Amy McLemore, Michael Goodwin, Kathleen Vander Syde. Grandchildren: Jackie, Baxter, Owen, Gabriel; and stepchildren of Michael (Austin and Katie). Siblings and in-laws: Nancy (Dan) Waller, Ginnie Boslooper, Carol Boslooper, LouAnne Moore, Jim & Cina Goodwin. Many nieces, nephews, and friends who loved her.

After a serious illness, she moved to Eureka Springs, Arkansas, from Houston. She lived independently there until an infection sent her to Washington Regional Medical Center where she received antibiotics but died from a heart attack. Staff there (where she received awesome care) were amazed when she told them she was having a fatal heart attack as she studied the monitor and her own EKG. Those who knew her were not surprised she diagnosed herself, and though we are saddened by her death, it is comforting to know she died while giving orders to the doctors about her condition. Always the nurse, and always in charge!

Funeral mass was Friday, June 13, 2025, at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church with military honors at 1300 hours. Online condolences may be sent to nelsonfuneral.com, Nelson Funeral Service, Inc. 2025.
