Journalism matters

73

I am a journalism student at Kansas State University. A couple weeks ago over spring break, my family visited Eureka Springs, and I was able to pick up the March 12 copy of your paper. As someone who works for my school’s yearbook and newspaper, I love getting to see and read through other publications, and yours did not disappoint.

I am specifically reaching out today because of one story from The Coffee Table, “The Practical Coward.” I thought that this story and its message was phenomenal, especially the second to last paragraph mentioning the importance of continuing to write in the midst of censorship.

I often feel discouraged working in student journalism, as many of us know that our publications aren’t seen or read as much as we would like. This story was another reminder and reassurance that the work we do does matter, and to keep pursuing the journalism that we’re passionate about.

If you could make sure that Cara Sroges sees this as well, that would be greatly appreciated. Wishing the best for you and your staff at the Eureka Springs Independent!
