Cause of a fire that destroyed a three-story residence at 64 Pine, on the historic loop, in the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 27, is still under investigation, according to Eureka Springs Fire Chief Gary Inman.
Lightning was ferocious that night and has not been ruled out as source of the fire, he said, although other causes are being considered as standard investigative procedure. Witness testimony is also being taken into account.
No one was reported hurt in the building occupied by renters. Eureka Springs Police Chief Billy Floyd said it was hard to determine how many people were in the building when the fire broke out, as some apparently left before EMS, ESFD and ESPD arrived a little before 6 a.m.
Inman said a full report could be finished in a week.
