Editor,
One of the songs at George H. W. Bush’s Texas funeral was This Is My Country. In the lyrics is the question “Shall we perish unjust or live equal as a nation?” Which do you work for?
I did not always agree with President Bush’s policies, but I certainly appreciated his ethics, his kindness and his admonition to love. What a contrast between this honored man and our current president who spews hatred, greed, lies and selfishness.
Whose country is America? Only the white, mostly male, wealthy? Or, each immigrant who comes here to work? My foreparents came from Ireland, leaving the potato famine behind. All of us are worthy to be part of this country whose mistakes are huge but whose ideals are so good. Immigrants should be welcomed.
I hope the Democratic House of Representatives can begin the change so badly needed. We need honesty, compassion and equality in our country; not Trump and the Trumpites.
