How sweet it is

We, the staff of the White Street Candy Bank thank the generous community members who donated candy, treats, and toys to the Candy Bank this year. Thanks to them, we took in a whopping 400 plus pounds of treats to be redistributed to the neighbors all along the upper loop to supplement what they doled out to the more than 1,300 trick-or-treaters this year.

We all had a great time, as we do each year, playing with our friends, neighbors, and visitors. We calculate more than 3,000 costumed people were out on the streets and the crowd seems to grow each year. Next year we plan to expand the candy distribution further, as crowds are making their way into neighborhoods off the loop, and the residents on Vaughn, Ridgeway, and Linwood are rockin’ it bigtime! Big thanks to everyone who decorates homes so amazingly and contributes to the party.

Our Police Department is always present, but this year, for the first time, they went a step further by directing traffic in one direction only from the highway to the Crescent Hotel. It made a huge difference, and everyone seems to agree it solved a lot of safety concerns.

Not only were they plentiful and courteous, but they also saw that staying until 6 o’clock would not be long enough, and were in place another two hours, well into the dark time. Our gratitude to them, the mayor’s office and Transit Department for working with us on this change in flow.
