HISID Yacht Club headed for demolition

District Manager Lawrence Blood said the Yacht Club building at Holiday Island has deteriorated to the point it should be demolished. He had been given estimates of at least $25,000 to stabilize the building and up to $100,000 to refurbish it, so he was looking at other options. He told the board on Monday it would not be worth it for HISID to take on a salvage operation, but wondered if there were someone else who would. He asked commissioners what HISID would want out of the deal.

Commissioner Linda Graves said salvaging sounded like a good idea, but she paused at the liabilities associated with demolition. Blood stated if they did find someone, that person would need insurance coverage and experience with demolition.

Commissioner Dan Kees added that first the district would need a contract defining what it expects from a salvager. He suggested they get word out in local newspapers to see if there is any interest.

Chair David Makidon suggested several ways they could reach out to potential salvagers at no cost, and said once they determine someone wants the job they could develop a contract.

Blood said he would proceed with alerting potential salvagers.
