Chair Bryce Holland told Holiday Island Advertising and Promotion commissioners at a special meeting on Nov. 18 that they have found a replacement for the empty seat left by Tyler Scoggins. Ben Hall, a short-term rental owner who recently moved from Oklahoma, will go before city council for affirmation.
Secretary/Treasurer Peggy Lodewyks said HIAPC needs a CPA to help with financial work, and that although they had talked with the city’s accountant, commissioners decided to not have any overlap with the city. Two candidates, John Seymour, a retired CPA who said he would work for $75 to $90 an hour, and Tabitha Hom who has done accounting work for Eureka Springs but is not a CPA, who said she would work for $43 an hour.
Commissioners asked if Hom was familiar with QuickBooks, which Lodewyks assured she was. Commissioners set up a contract with Hom for laying the financial groundwork for HIAPC, but when an audit or other CPA specific matter came up, said they would contract with that person.
Commissioners reviewed the newest draft of their tax form and made suggestions to improve it. That form must go out by Dec. 27.
The final piece of old business was that commissioners had decided to pay the American Legion $562 to secure a billboard, and Master Signs agreed to print the wrap for the billboard and delay billing until June 2025 so the commission will have time to collect taxes on April 20. The commission will create the advertisement and have rental for a year.
Commissioners discussed getting a credit card that could be used by Holland, Lodewyks, or Vice Chair Sharon Lawlor for HICAPC purchases, mainly online, as commissioners use checks locally. A line of credit of $5000 from Equity Bank and unanimously voted in favor.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Dec. 3 at 6 p.m.
