Aldermen at Monday’s council meeting unanimously approved seating Ann Tandy-Sallee to the Planning Commission, and Susan Harman to fill a vacant seat on the City Advertising and Promotion Commission.
When Damon Henke’s name came up for confirmation to remain seated on the CAPC, alderman Mickey Schneider stated she had a problem with someone who puts personal goals before the best interests of the city. She claimed Henke represented the interests of the Great Passion Play during the controversy around Ordinance 2223 last year, and “he fought against us. I’m having a major problem with this,” she said.
Alderman James DeVito, who sits with Henke on the CAPC, asked, “Are we even talking about the same person?” Alderman Terry McClung, who also sits with Henke at CAPC meetings, stated, “He has the right to his own opinion and he does a good job at the CAPC.”
Vote on confirming Henke was 3-1-1, Schneider voting No and Kendrick abstaining. Alderman David Mitchell voted No, so Henke’s confirmation was denied.
