HDC to hold masonry workshop

The Historic District Commission had a light agenda for the March 1 meeting, but commissioners made plans for a workshop before the March 15 meeting.

The workshop, set for 5 p.m. at The Aud, will focus on retaining walls and other masonry issues. Building Inspector Jacob Coburn, who is currently working on a survey of retaining walls in the city, has been invited, and Bruce Wright of Livingston Hollow Corp., will give a presentation. Other contractors have been invited and will answer questions from commissioners.

City Historic Preservation Officer Kyle Palmer encouraged commissioners to invite people with interest in the subject. Palmer also asked commissioners to consider a workshop before the second meeting of each month. Commissioner Marty Cogan asked about ways to encourage the public to attend workshops, and that topic will be continued at the next meeting.

The HDC will next meet at 6 p.m. on March 15, immediately following the workshop. Level III applications were due March 2, and Level II applications were due March 8.
