HDC mapping project to get new life

278

Commissioner John Nuckols announced at the Sept. 19 Historic District Commission meeting he had researched strategies for continuing their project of connecting data about properties in the historic district to a map on the city website for ease of use. The plan would be for a click on a property to link to records about that location. Nuckols identified mapping applications for handling the task, but warned commissioners to expect costs associated with them, plus he might need some technical support to get started.

Commissioner Dee Bright said they should first make the digitized property records easily available to the public and then work on the map. City Preservation Officer Glenna Booth said she would assist in moving the projects forward.

Commissioners approved these four items of new business:

  • 12 Fuller – revise previously approved application; change window to door on rear; add deck on rear; rebuild front rock foundation
  • 44 Kingshighway – new fence
  • 1 German Alley – revise previously approved application: add two doors
  • 126 Oakridge – new construction: carport.

Bright mentioned the metal carport at 126 Oakridge was allowed because it was in a non-historic neighborhood.

The application for adding a pipe railing to stone steps at 45 Benton was pulled from the Consent Agenda for discussion and approved with the stipulation the railing be free-standing.

These items on the Consent Agenda were also approved:

  • 121 Spring – new sign
  • 170 W. Van Buren – new signs
  • 119 N. Main – add gate to railing
  • East Van Buren – re-face existing billboard

The Consent Agenda items are Level I applications that the City Preservation Officer believes to be in accordance with the design guidelines.

Bright presented these Administrative Approvals which are applications for repair

and work involving no changes in materials but which include changes in roofing and paint colors:

45 Benton – paint front porch floor

226 Spring – extend approval for six months

Next meeting will be Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 6 p.m.
