HDC makes partial approval

The Historic District Commission met April 19 in the Auditorium theatre, and Chair Dee Bright welcomed having the public closer to the table. Previous meetings had been held on the stage, and commissioners often had to strain to see or hear people in the audience.

The Parks Commission had met the night before, so this was not the first meeting held in the theatre.

In the only major business of the evening, Marcia Yearsley applied to replace a home destroyed by fire at 6 Hazel St. She plans to use the existing foundation, and the house will be similar to the original house. Yearsley asked about changing part of the siding, and commissioners separated that part of the application before approving the rest of the project.

Upcoming workshops are scheduled at 5 p.m. on May 17 and June 2. The first workshop will provide a team-building session with Main Street Eureka Springs, and the second will continue a study of issues surrounding masonry and rock walls.

The HDC will next meet at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3. Level III applications were due April 20, and other levels were due April 26.
