What a busy, busy weekend, boats and people everywhere. It`s a lot of fun to watch but I don`t like to be in the middle of that mess. Now, if that’s the only time you have to fish it can be done. It takes some planning, but you can have fishing success on a holiday weekend.

You’ll want to get on the water early or later in the evening. Look for coves with scattered flooded bushes. With most of the area lakes well above the normal pool and the water-stained from the recent rains, game fish will be shallow and active.

Bank fishing can be done as well, but you might have to take a little hike in the woods.

I selected to go fishing at the family farm pond again. Man, oh man I wasn’t disappointed, it was a kinda family thing and always a competition. Pretty sure I came out ahead on this day.

We always wait till late evening until we are all off work. Mine hit on a new color Jitterbug, plus a jointed body with a colorful skirt. Jitterbug has come out with wild new colors this year also along with what I mentioned last week on the Shad Rap Divers. Colors are all crazy this year on all new lures.  But I`m a firm believer that they like to see something new, something different. Don’t we all?

Other good places in this area to try during busy times are Black Bass Lake and Lake Leatherwood, these small lakes will not have boats that produce wakes. Be sure to take some live bait with you – worms, minnows, and crickets are a must.

Everything likes crickets, I even know of some people to eat chocolate-covered crickets. Crickets can be used to find success in the late spring/summertime of year when the bugs are out and panfish are feeding heavily on the surface. Also, around here in this area, we can’t get crickets all year around. So, it’s like the mushroom season for us and critters. Crickets are only here at a certain time of the year.
