Good day to all and a big shout out to everyone that participated in the Crappie Tournament to help collect brood stock for Beaver Lake Nursery pond.

Here are the big winners:

1st – Joey Eiland 10.71 (Big Fish)

2nd – Brian Trolinger 10.71

3rd – Hunter Bourke 10.32

4th – Juan Granados 9.99

Fish they caught from the tournament were stocked into Beaver Lake Nursery pond near Rogers, Ark., where they will naturally spawn. After they reach a certain size, they will open the dam at the nursery and drain directly into Beaver Lake.

Fish from the tournament were kept in live wells and turned in for weighing. Before AG&F took some of them to weighing, they fizzed the air out of the crappie. Fizzing, others call it artificial swim bladder deflation or venting, consists of pushing a hypodermic needle into the swim bladder, releasing air or gas that keeps fish able to maintain its depth without floating or sinking. Some of the fish we’re pulled from deep water, and as a result fish brought up too quickly causes blood chemistry change as well as an expansion of the air bladder to sometimes twice its normal size. This causes the fish to lay on its side, unable to swim right or survive.

Some are against this method others swear by it. I just found it very interesting.

So, crappie are still kicking it on Beaver Lake, they didn’t catch them all. The guys I talked to were using jigs around cover in 12 – 20 ft. deep. Hair jigs, grey and white, plastic jigs monkey milk and pink.

On the White River it’s the time to be there! Walleye and trout are still going strong.

White bass are trickling their way up the river. If you need help getting out and getting on the water in hopes of some trout, walleye and possibly white bass, give us a call at (479) 363-9632 Custom Adventure Guide Service, or look us up on Facebook for more pictures, videos and info. Take a kid fishing.
