On the White River, fly fishing with midges, pheasant tails, hares’ ears, and streamers have been very good but you’re going to have to get out and about early. They have been releasing water around 10 each morning these days. Check with the Southwestern Power Administration website (swpa.gov) to see the forecasted generation schedule.

Bank fishing and wading have produced well this last week. Try throwing Colorado Spoons and Rootstertails.  Yellow and White PowerBait tipped with waxworms were the baits of choice. A nightcrawler injected with air would increase your chances of tackling a Brown trout.

Boat fishing on the White River has been the best of both worlds.  We get to fish the still water early and by the end of the trip we are able to fish running water. These are two totally different ways of fishing.

In the still water, I like to baitfish to get numbers and plenty of action. When water starts to barely start running, I start to drift fish. Just pull anchors up and go with the flow while bumping the bait along the bottom. You can cover a lot of territory this way.

If you go through a hot spot you can start up the motor and run up and drift back through it. When the water really gets rolling, I break out some crankbaits or Rapala Countdowns in the color of shad or orange tint. We throw them towards the banks and rock structures pulling fast and deep with little jerk action every once awhile. This gets the big ones in the net.

I do not have you a lake report this week but I will know much more about it next week as I`m spending four days of fishing Beaver Lake this week. Switching it up this week hoping for some catfish.  I’m going to get some expert advice from my team member and co-guide, Richard Lee Rusher. He`s raising them three girls up right. His daughter Izzy is the picture I picked this week. I totally love it.
