How many times have you put friends on fish?

“Stand here. Cast there. Reel at this speed. I’ll be ready with the camera.”

Cast – nothing. Cast – nothing. Cast – nothing.

“Give me that!”

Cast – fish.

One angler is a believer.

It happens to us guides all the time. That is also why I don`t fish on guide trips. I was taught that long years ago when I worked for Charlotte Downey who owned the Dam Store for 21 years. She would say, “Never fish on your trips because you’re going to end up catching that fish they paid you to catch for themselves.” It has happened and it`s not a great feeling.

I believe in the lure or baits I throw.

Fishermen who experience a slow day on the lake or river start working through their tackle collection trying to find the right color, shape, speed, etc., that might turn on the fish. I learned this from one of the best guides around Carl Caso from That Dam Guide Service, he always tells me the main thing is to remember to throw what you believe in. And believe in what you throw.

With confidence comes success. Carl and I have worked together in the Beaver Dam Store for years. I pick his brain when I can. As well as he will ask from time to time, “What’s hot on the water these days for you?”

There are certain conditions that I know certain baits should work better, but I’ll still try baits when they aren’t supposed to work at all. I’ve had some great days fishing topwater in the middle of a sunny day or using a gaudy colored bait in gin-clear water.

I’ve always found that the best time to use a lure is when I’m fishing. Ha, with all that said again the main thing is you have to believe.  There are a few basic rules that have stood the test of time. In dark water, use dark lures, and in clear water use light lures.

Hope all is well and hope you all saw some bent poles this week. Give us a call if you would like to go on an adventure with us at (479) 363-9632 or check us out on Facebook at Custom Adventures Guide Service for more greats pictures and videos. Remember to believe, and take a kid fishing.
