What a nice start to our week, cool rain! Reports last week reminded me of the great fishing opportunities on the Kings River. The Kings is one of 3 rivers in the central United States that runs north. We also have the White River and the Buffalo National River. All of these are great fisheries.

The White and Buffalo offer native warm water species while the White is a coldwater stream with trout, due to the US Corps of Engineers impoundment of waters for hydroelectric power generation. The Kings and Buffalo support some of the best smallmouth bass fishing in the nation.

There are also tons of panfish, catfish and native walleye. The rains Monday will have water levels up and that makes it a perfect time to float. Try a trip from Rockhouse Creek access to Trigger Gap. You will get to fish many nice holes along the way.

Focus on the areas before and after the rapids for great smallmouth action. Try a Rebel minnow or green plastic grub. Panfish can be caught on small top-water lures such as my fave… Rapala Tiny Torpedo.

Floating from Stoney Point to Romp Hole has been producing white bass and nice catfish. Richard Lee Rusher is showing off nice cats in this week’s picture.

Take some minnows to the bottom between Romphouse and Table Rock for walleye.

Remember to pack a dry bag with extra clothes and don’t forget the life jackets! Oh yes… kids love to float. See y’all on the river!
