People often ask me, “How did trout come to Arkansas?”

The 1940s in Arkansas, you would discover at least one thing very different about the clear gravel-bottomed rivers of the Ozark and Ouachita mountains. They had no trout. None. Zero.

That may seem odd since today some of those same rivers — Beaver Tailwater, Bull Shoals Tailwater, Little Red River, Spring River, and others are considered among the world’s top trout-fishing destinations.

After the federal dams were made Fisheries Biologists at the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service knew that trout were ideal for stocking in the frigid waters below each dam. They also knew that it would create places where anglers could catch trout to their hearts’ content, including some true monsters like Austin Kennedy’s big brown (catch and release). Austin has Busch Mountain Fishing Guide Service, look them up on Facebook. You won`t be disappointed.

Beaver Lake is coming down. Go with topwater baits in the morning, switch to a shaky head during the day.

Table Lake is getting great reports this week. Healthy 3-5 pound largemouth coming in over the past weekend. The word is they like seeing something new, now these are fishermen telling stories… soooo. Fishing points early with Torpedoes any size early in the mornings. Then fall out as the sun rises, shallow square-bill cranks, or a half-ounce jig in green pumpkin orange or green pumpkin blue in 18-28 ft. of water.

Custom Adventure guide Richard Lee Rusher just added a new boat to the fleet. It`s Beauty. Please look it up on Facebook at Custom Adventures Guide Service and give him a thumbs up.
