I hope everybody enjoyed last week in between the rains. The two best times to fish is when it’s rainin’ and when it isn’t. We got some nice breaks of it raining early morning, then being nice and cleared up by late morning and early afternoon. Beaver Lake seems to be the hotspot this last week.

Slab crappie, all bass, bream, stripers, and every species of catfish, some walleye. All these varieties of fish have been being caught all over Beaver Lake and that’s a lot of lake at 28,000+ acres of clear water. These last few weeks the majority of these reports I’ve gotten was from people who were shore/bank fishing.  So don’t let not having a boat keep you from getting off the couch, go get your FISH ON.

And that’s just what Lance Hugely, owner and operator of Lance Hugely Crappie Guide Service LLC, said. If you would like to see pictures of crappie in abundance, check out his Facebook page.  On his page he tells a little about how right now is the right time to be out there, “June is the boom!”

He said they got started about 5:30ish and started catching right away. Just steady fishing. Started putting more and more keepers in live well. He added that they didn’t know what time they got their first limit but lots faster than it has been.  It slowed for a bit and when fish moved deeper. That’s all it took. He said that the best bite was minnow rigging in 15 to 17 feet of water at about 10 feet deep. All of them had mayflies in their stomachs. Water temp was 74-75°.  Lake elevation was 1125.

Temperatures are getting warmer, and we all know fishing in the mornings and evenings is always better, but as the temperatures rise it is better for us humans also. Be safe, hydrate and enjoy this next week. This upcoming weekend is going to be a scorcher.
