I hope everybody had a safe and happy holiday weekend. There was some very bad weather, and I heard so many stories about tent campers, they really had their hands full. One camper got laid over on its side in a campground on Beaver Lake and a nearby camper had to cut a woman out. Her back was hurt so she was airlifted. I have never seen this many trees uprooted in this area before. Just a week ago I was telling somebody that tornadoes rarely come in this area, but Hello.

We are very lucky compared to other areas close to us, some people are still without electricity. I love this community and the surrounding areas. Everybody seems caring and giving and wants to help. There have been free meals given out by restaurants and residents, and there are even people offering rooms in their homes. Civic community centers are going overboard to make sure folks are tended.

It’s turning into an early morning and late evening thing, but plenty of fish are out there and they’re really hungry.

And the heat has finally found us. I have heard from several people who were flyfishing using a cicada imitator as a top float with a black and olive woolly booger dropper. One report was that a yellow woolly was killing it. If a fish is seeing something new, they’re going to hit it because they’re used to seeing the usual and they know better. Might sound crazy but variety is what we prefer, right?

Carl Caso, shown here, does a lot of guiding. He fly fishes and conventional fishes, and has two boats running out of his business, That Dam Guide. His uncle Carl runs the second boat. Carl works at the Beaver Dam Store (Hwy. 187), and if I were a budding piscator needing some answers I would go to the store and ask him.

Carl fishes the White River and Bull Shoals, he’ll take you fishing over there, too.
